Une incroyable atmosphère régnait hier sous le majestueux Dôme des Invalides à Paris,à quelques mètres du tombeau de l’empereur, grâce à un partenariat entre la société Aristophil,le musée de l’Armée et la Fondation Napoléon. L’événement est de taille : ce sont plus de 500 manuscrits réunis, soit près de 1500 pages couvrant sa carrière depuis ses débuts, à l’Ecole militaire de Brienne jusqu’aux dernières volontés du proscrit de Sainte-Hélène. Cette collection privée est l’une des plus importantes jamais constituée autour de Napoléon 1er et fait désormais partie du patrimoine français.Pour ce faire, la société Aristophil a acquis ces pièces uniques auprès d’un collectionneur américain ( ce dernier avait mis plus de trente ans pour les regrouper ). Il aura fallu près de trois mois pour préparer cette exposition avec l’aménagement de ce site prestigieux comme difficulté supplémentaire : projecteurs spécifiques hissés par harnais, mise en place de vitrines faites sur-mesure ( conservation des documents)… Des militaires en costume d’époque étaient là également pour immortaliser ce moment.

Napoléon n’était pas qu’un homme d’épée, il était aussi homme de plume.Pour lui, la gloire d’une nation ne se mesurait pas seulement à la force de ses armes,mais aussi au génie de sa langue et de ses écrivains. Cette collection nous montre un homme sans cesse en train d’écrire,de dicter,d’annoter,quelles que soient les circonstances On y retrouve, bien sûr, le chef militaire,précis dans ses ordres,attentif aux moindres détails,notamment d’intendance ;l’homme politique,l’amoureux, le financier….. Des objets jalonnent ce parcours historique :un portefeuille en maroquin rouge datant de la campagne de Russie,un compas solaire…

The event was organised by the société Aristophil, the army museum and the Napoléon Foundation, which reunited more than 500 manuscripts, that is to say nearly 1500 pages covering his career from the beginning at the Ecole Militaire de Brienne until his exile on St Helena.

This private collection is the most important ever devoted to Napoléon I, and is now part of the patrimony of France. In order to accomplish this the société Aristopil acquired these unique documents from an American collector (who spent 30 years bringing them together). Altogether it took 3 months to prepare this exhibition, with the arrangement of this prestigious location adding to the difficulty. Projectors had to be lifted on special harnesses, putting in place made to measure showcases for the conservation of the documents. There were also military men in the uniforms of the period to immortalise the moment.

Napoleon was not only a man of the sword but also of the pen. For him the glory of a nation was not measured only by force of arms, but also in the genius of the language and its writers. This collection shows us a man who never stopped writing, dictating, noting the events taking place. We of course find a military leader precise in his commands, attentive to the smallest details, politician, lover, financier…….

“Lorsque l’on veut vraiment quelque chose, il semble que tout l’univers s’accorde pour vous aider à l’obtenir”.

Ces mots nous viennent de la sensibilité d’un grand auteur : Paulo Coelho. Maitre de l’écriture, et dans l’art de susciter des émotions. Coelho ne pouvait que se laisser convaincre par la maison Montegrappa, la première manufacture d’instruments d’écriture italienne qui a toujours été le vecteur de l’amour de l’expression manuscrite. De cette collaboration est née l’édition Limitée Paulo Coelho : car le périple dans le monde de l’écriture mérite le plus fidèle compagnon de route.

Chaque détail de la Série Limitée Paulo Coelho nous renvoie à la vie personnelle et artistique de l’auteur. 1947 exemplaires ont été réalisés en hommage à la date de naissance de Paulo Coelho. (24 aout 1947). Cette collection se compose de 1000 plumes en argent, 900 rollers en argent et 47 plumes en or jaune massif, émeraudes et diamants. Chaque exemplaire de cette Edition Limitée est manufacturé, utilisant la technique de « l’ajourage ». Cette technique met en relief le contraste entre la résine noire aux effets nacrés et son manteau de métal précieux.

La plume, comportant la gravure d’un papillon, symbole cher à l’auteur, est en or blanc 18 carats pour les versions en argent et en or jaune 18 carats pour les versions en or jaune. La gravure sur le corps rend hommage à un moment important de la vie de Coelho : Son pèlerinage à saint Jacques de Compostelle. Le chemin emprunté par l’auteur est mis en relief par une laque noire précieuse pour les versions en argent et par des diamants pour les versions en or. Sur le haut du capuchon se trouve en plus du logo Montegrappa, l’image d’une boussole rappelant l’attrait artistique de Coelho pour les symboles. La signature de l’auteur est reprise sur le capuchon. L’agrafe est en forme d’épée en référence à son chef d’œuvre : « Le pèlerin de Compostelle »

These words came to life through the sensitivity of a great author: Paulo Coelho. In every detail the Paulo Coelho L.E. is a tribute to the personal and artistic journey of the great writer. 1947 limited editions were created; recalling Coelho’s date of birth (24th August, 1947). In the collection, this number consists of 1,000 fountain pens in silver, 900 rollers in silver and emeralds and 47 fountain pens in yellow gold, emeralds and diamonds. In every model of this limited edition, the shaft and the cap are manufactured using the technique of metal perforating. This technique serves to highlight the contrast between the black pearl resin and the enveloping sheath in precious metal. “The pen is a musical instrument. Enhanced with the engraving of a butterfly; another symbol the author is keen on, the nibs are made of 18 carat white gold for the silver fountain pen and in 18 carat yellow gold for the gold version. The shaft pays homage to an important experience of Coelho’s: his pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The route covered by the author is plotted out in precious black lacquer in the silver model and in diamonds in the gold one. At the top of the pen, together with the historic Montegrappa logo, is the figure of a compass; recalling Coelho’s artistic symbolism. The author’s autograph adorns the cap and the lines of the clip represent the lines of a sword – referring to his masterpiece “The Pilgrimage”.

Un musée fabuleux à ne pas rater, le cadre est très agréable ( un ancien hôtel particulier ) et les documents historiques nombreux.

Depuis 1992, chaque année, le lancement de l'édition limitée Patron des Arts est très attendue. Cette année, la marque honore une grande figure de l'histoire de France, François 1er. Every year Montblanc is faced with great expectations: the presentation of the “Patron of Art Edition”, limited to 4,810 pieces, with which Montblanc has been honouring outstanding patrons in history since 1992, is an event eagerly awaited by all collectors and admirers of noble writing instruments. This year’s edition of the precious writing instruments bears the name of the great pioneer of the French Renaissance: François I. Worthy of a royal ruler and patron, the “Montblanc Patron of Art Edition François I” is a majestic writing jewel of gleaming tiger eye, jet-black precious lacquer and gilt fittings as courtly ornamentation.

François I (1494-1547), crowned King of France at the age of 19, intervened in the political scene in Europe, signed important treaties and conducted exhausting wars. But François I became famous as the perfect personification of the Renaissance sovereign, as a royal patron and builder of the magnificent castles of Chambord and Fontainebleau, the Paris City Hall and the new Louvre.

Immediately after his ascent to the throne he achieved what his predecessors had not managed: to attract the most important Italian artists to France, including Leonardo da Vinci, who lived and worked at the king’s court until he died. The works created by Leonardo such as the “Mona Lisa”, but also the paintings of Michelangelo, Tizian and Raffael which the King had bought in Italy formed the basis of the Louvre collection, which is now so famous all over the world. As a modernist in the spirit of the Renaissance, François I also opened the royal libraries to the general public, founded in 1530 the Collège Royal, now known as the Collège de France, and cultivated his love of splendidly illustrated manuscripts.

The passion of François I for painting, architecture and artistic writing is expressed in the carefully chosen design of the Montblanc Patron of Art Edition bearing his name. The gilt pen fittings shine in royal elegance and are decorated with courtly Renaissance ornaments. Another majestic touch is the three-colour combination of the valuable materials: gold, jet-black and reddish brown tiger eye, with its golden gleam. During his life, François I wore this fascinating gem as an amulet to protect himself against dangers and the powers of evil.

The fine engraving on the hand-made 18-carat gold nib honours the great king and art patron: it shows three heraldic lilies, the insignia of the French royal house, which also adorned the royal crown of lilies.

The uniqueness of each pen is guaranteed by an engraved edition number.

Art and culture need impulses, they need open, committed personalities to care for them and promote them. The enthusiasm for the arts with which François I created a great cultural legacy at the time of the Renaissance still inspires outstanding patrons of culture today. On the occasion of the annual presentation of the new Patron of Art Edition, Montblanc awards a culture prize which is unique in the world, the “Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award.”

With this award, contemporary patrons of culture from eleven countries are honoured every year whose personal commitment has deserved public recognition. Chosen by an international jury, the prizewinners receive not only financial support for a culture project of their choice, but also a precious variant of the current Patron of Art Edition – this year the “François I” fountain-pen, named after the great French Renaissance patron.

Irlande... ce nom seul évoque d'immenses étendues vertes et sauvages, balayées par le vent. Nous reviennent aussi en mémoire, les pubs colorés où la bière et la musique celtique perpétuent une tradition ancestrale.

C'est dans ce pays mythique, à Dublin, que George Bernard Shaw voit le jour en 1856. Il serait vain de tenter de résumer en quelques lignes l'oeuvre immense de cet homme remarquable à plus d'un titre. Provocateur,acerbe,anticonformiste mais profondément pacifiste,il cherchera dans ses oeuvres à dénoncer un certain ordre établi et parfois trop rigoureux. Ses mots d'humour, souvent teintés de noir, sont célèbres dans le monde entier. Auteur de près de cinquante pièces de théâtre, il a reçu le prix Nobel de Littérature en 1925. C'est en 1939 que lui est attribué un Oscar pour le film "My Fair Lady" son adaptation cinématographique de la très célèbre pièce "Pygmalion". "On" raconte que la statuette lui servait de "bloque porte"...

Editée pendant l'été 2008, la série George Bernard Shaw, appartient à cette lignée que Montblanc, depuis 1992, consacre chaque année à un écrivain. Elle se compose de 16000 stylos plume, 18000 stylos bille et 4000 sets (plume, bille et porte mine). Sous l'étoile figure la signature de l'écrivain. La plume est en or 18 carats plaquée rhodium et une fleur y est gravée en souvenir d'Eliza Doolittle, la petite vendeuse de fleurs, héroïne de Pygmalion, Les créateurs ont souhaité en mariant le platine au magnifique vert marbré de la résine... en gravant la petite fleur sur la plume , mettre tout autant en valeur l'héroïne que son créateur. Un ensemble de maroquinerie haut de gamme vient compléter le lancement de cette série spéciale.

This year the coveted Montblanc Writers Edition is dedicated to George Bernard Shaw. Montblanc honours the dramatist and Nobel Prize winner for literature with a limited writing-instrument collection, in which the dark green marbled body with its gleaming platinised rings reflects the development of the flower girl Eliza Doolittle into an apparently aristocratic lady. Together with the writing-instrument edition, Montblanc is presenting for the first time a select collection of note taking and writing accessories, superbly handcrafted from soft black calf leather. Especially eye-catching and novel features are the finely embossed text fragments on each piece, representing handwritten quotations of the great Irish writer George Bernard Shaw.

If a commission had been set up when the world was created, it still wouldn’t be finished today.“ Such witty aphorisms established the reputation of the Dubliner, born in 1856, as a sharp and shrewd satirist. George Bernard Shaw taught himself what interested him: literature and music. When he was 20, he moved to London, became music and theatre critic and wrote about 40 plays.

In 1925 the linguistically talented freethinker received the Nobel Prize for literature and in 1938, as the only Nobel Prize winner, an Oscar for the film-script adaptation of his best known play “Pygmalion“ – better known under the later musical title “My Fair Lady“. The story of the phonetics ¬professor Henry Higgins and the London flower girl Eliza Doolittle is world-famous: In the belief that the social status of a person depends only on that person’s language, Higgins teaches the flower girl the pronunciation and vocabulary of a cultivated lady of the London upper class. Shaw’s social satire caused a scandal at its première in 1913. The combination of humour with underlying criticism of the Victorian class society was too obvious. Filmed several times and in 1956, six years after Shaw’s death, performed as a musical which won eight Oscars, the play achieved everlasting world fame.

The dark green marbled lacquer softens ring by ring towards the cap with its brightly shining platinised surface. Eliza’s origin is also recollected in the fine flower engraving on the hand worked, Platonised nib of 18-carat gold. On the cap, under the ivory-coloured Montblanc star, there is engraved the sweeping signature of her spiritual father George Bernard Shaw.

They are available in a limited edition and only in Montblanc boutiques and from selected trade partners. The Montblanc Writers Edition 2008 appears in August and is limited to 16,000 fountain-pens, 18,000 ballpoint pens and 4,000 set combinations with matching mechanical pencil – dedicated to the most important English-language dramatist since William Shakespeare: George Bernard Shaw.
